This hotel is just lovely. The rooms are beautifully furnished. The staff are very thoughtful (providing hot water bottles on chilly nights) and extremely helpful. We were picked up from San Jose airport by Will, who was very friendly and welcoming. The food at the hotel is delicious. The only down side is, the hotel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere (great views though!). If you have a car this will not be a problem, otherwise the hotel can help you out with a driver to the local sightseeing spots

We had an awesome time at the Poas Lodge, enjoying the spectacular setting nestled among the hills and with fantastic views of the volcano. The whole atmosphere is tranquil and relaxed, with all the little extra luxuries that make your stay special. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly, approachable and helpful, going well beyond our expectations and really making our stay.

We booked into the Lodge on our last night in Costa Rica due to the fact it was close to the airport and La Paz Waterfall Gardens. Lovely lodge tucked away in the hills of a farm It was quite cold up in the mountains but lovely warm fireplaces are lit in the lounges and main lodge at night creating a romantic cosy atmosphere. We almost felt like we were in Ski Resort in Europe. We ate dinner at the restaurant and when we returned to our room, our bed had been turned down and there was warm water bottle tucked in between the sheets. Nice touch. Our stay was short but we enjoyed our time. Breakfast was great too.

This place was wonderful. The staff was great and so very helpful. We had the whole house to ourselves our first night and we sat and drank wine with the staff and learned so much about the area and the people. The food was excellent and it was very quiet and peaceful. This is the perfect couples get away. The view of the mountains from the master suite was wonderful. I am at a loss for words, It is something that an individual needs to see for themselves.

“COZY, friendly JUST NICE!”

We spent a great weekend celebrating the birthday of my mother (we were 15!) and have to say, that we had an amazing time. Rooms were spotless, staff super friendly and accommodating, the food delicious and the whole atmosphere of the lodge was very appropriate for a family outing in a lovely and relaxing scenery. We will definitely go back anytime soon!

The Poas Volcano Lodge is actually in Vara Blanca, on the way from Poas National Park to the Waterfall Gardens.  It is a wonderful surprise, on a working dairy in the mountains. It is quite different from the usual places one visits in Costa Rica.  The lodge is elegant and comfortable. The service, very personal, and the food is great with home-made bread and butter and lots of delicious local strawberries.

“Cozy in the Clouds”

I took my 13-year old volcano-loving son to the pastoral hills of Poas for a crater visit and a night at the Lodge. Our needs were simple, but the Lodge exceeded expectations. The architecture is rustic, yet refined; charming and contemporary. We loved the wood-burning stoves, the reading room and of course, the spacious game room....If we'd had time to stay longer, I would have enjoyed exploring the hiking trails (full of tree ferns) and grounds. As it is, we hope to go back for a longer stay another time.

“A little bit of heaven”

Poas Volcano lodge is magical. Masses of fireflies delighted us in the evenings. The surroundings are beautiful, the food was the best we had in Costa Rica. The architecture is magnificent and the story behind the re-construction is fascinating and moving. We had to leave in the early morning before breakfast, and the staff packed up lovely bag breakfast for us so we could start our journey. Very welcoming. If I lived in San Jose, I'd be there several times a year. Highly recommended.

“Loved it here!”

I stayed at this hotel in March with a friend of mine, as we were travelling through Costa Rica. We stayed in the Hummingbird Suite and it was wonderful--the nicest hotel we stayed at during our entire week in Costa Rica. My only regret is that we stayed only one night!... The staff was lovely, so friendly, understanding, and helpful. They were able to answer all of our questions, and recommended the best time for us to get to the Volcano in the morning--we wound up being some of the first people to see the Poas Volcano crater and beat all of the lines getting into the park!... If I ever come back to Costa Rica, this is the only hotel I'd return to again.

A little hard to find, but so worth it! This place feels so incredibly cozy, but has an air of european elegance to it as well. The food was wonderful. Our room was cozy and inviting with a modern stylish bathroom and bedside tea and coffee.

The common areas in the hotel will take your breath away. It has a rustic elegance that blends into the surrounding countryside beautifully. Sitting in the library or the game room, it is as if you are the only guest at the resort.

“Pictures Doesn't Do This Place Justice!”

The previous reviews make this place seem ok, but when we actually got there, it was amazing!! There is a really cozy feeling, and the bathrooms are really nice. Inside the reception building is beautiful! There are a couple reading spots with nice wood furnaces, entertainment area downstairs as well as the restaurant. One rainy afternoon we decided to stay in and read in the building. The staff (Fanny) was very attentive and offered us some tea and biscuits.... Food is ok, but service is great. I love the breakfast!! Buffet fresh fruit, and choice of egg with bacon or ham. Pancake is very delicious!!

“Highly recommend it!”

We just stayed one night but absolutely loved it. By far the best breakfast I've had in a long time - home-made breads and jam, eggs, bacon, pancakes, home-made (so good we would have bought it in bulk if we could), fresh fruit and fresh squeezed orange juice. It's a very special place and the views, especially right when you wake up, are stunning. We wish we could have stayed another night but we were on a pretty tight schedule. If you plan to do Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, this is the place to stay!

“Surrounded by nature”

An absolutely stunning find high up on a dairy farm near Poas Volcano. You really feel at one with nature up here. The design of the whole hotel is beautiful and the rooms are very private & spacious (we're staying in the house itself). Lots of nature around and a great soda is a short walk away for lunch. Breakfast is amazing: jam, butter, bread, granola, fruit, milk & eggs all produced and made locally. The breakfasts have been the highlight of our holiday so far!!

“Visited with my family”

It was like being in Alice in Wonderland. Our kids (ages 3 and 6) LOVED it. Everything from the giant ferns in the garden to the hiking trails through mysterious rainforest. And the two dogs were a big hit too!! The meals were farm fresh and delicious as can be and the staff were FABULOUS!!

The Lodge exceeded our expectations in every way possible. the Lodge design is a wonderful blend of casual and elegant, And the location in a cloud forest is unbeatable. I would come back here and stay for a week. My kids have been begging me to go back!! I don't normally write reviews of places we stay but Poas Volcano Lodge was so wonderful I had to write a review!!

“A truly special place”

Despite the fog, rain and what could be interpreted as a cold exterior, Poas lodge could not have been more warm and cozy. The food was local, fresh and rooms were charmingly rustic with a touch of elegance. A must if you're in the area!!

“Excellent Stay!!!”

The Poas Lodge was the last stop on our trip to Costa Rica and what a way to end the trip! The employees were great (I wish I remembered their names) and so welcoming! The first night we enjoyed dinner everything was amazing and local from the farmers of the region. The rooms were great, and the beds were the best part! The view from the restaurant was beautiful of San Jose at night. I highly recommend this place, you won't be disappointed.

“If you've got the money, splurge on one of the $250 per night suites in the main lodge...in any other place in the civilized world”

We had a van driver take us from Los Suenos to the Poas Volcano Lodge for our last night in Costa Rica. Our four teens explored the grounds, took pictures of all the dairy cows, then settled in for a 3 hour marathon of Uno in their suite. You don't get this type of family interaction with smart phones and wifi. Our dinner was delightful. It makes me sad knowing that I will never, ever have butter this good again. Went to the volcano in the morning on our way back to the airport...too foggy to see anything. Didn't matter. The Poas Volcano Lodge was a destination by itself
